Hi! I'm new to letterboxing and just carved my own personal stamp
yesterday. It is about a 4-inch square. Is this too big? Are most
log books in the containers going to accommodate this or should I
carve a smaller stamp? I did check out one letterbox a couple of
weeks ago but didn't stamp in because I hadn't carved my stamp yet,
and it was only about 3 inches square and the stamp was probably
only a inch or so. One person that had a big stamp that wouldn't
fit in the logbook stamped on a piece of paper and folded it up in
the container. Do many people do that?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Dogmom
P.S. I have been geocaching for a year and was introduced to this
when I found out that one of my caches is on the same remote trail
as a letterbox. I'm looking forward to making that my first
official find in the next week or two. I live in Northern
California near the Oregon border. There are no letterboxes in my
town yet but I have lots of ideas of where to place some and hope to
get them out there in the next couple of months. I ordered plenty
of stamp carving medium to keep me busy for a while!

I tend to keep my personal stamp in the range of 2" x 3" max.. Most of the letterboxes that I have found tend to have a 3"x5" notpad as the logbook and therefore, that size works perfectly for me. Some people carry one sized stamp and a smaller one for micro letterboxes.

while the enthusiasm is great, I am yet to see a logbook that would
accommodate a stamp this large. Mine is about two square inches, and to be
honest, I think it is too big and I'm going to redo it sometime soon.

Your stamp will be too big for most letterbox logbooks. Logbooks
inside letterboxes are generally 3 x 5 inches or smaller.
If you want to make big stamps, make the ones you leave in your
letterboxes big, because most people's personal logbooks are big
enough to accommodate a 4-inch stamp.

well, yours was 62725, so that's a heck of a lot of quick notes like
yours to read thru. :) guess that means you either don't know the
answer, or have nothing better to do:)

well, if i make the size a guy "thinks" it should be, i'd neeed a
huge sheet of paper to stamp it on. but if i have a stamp the size it
really is, it'll be too small to see.
oh, by the way, my momma did tell me size matters. women don't lie to
their daughters, but men lie to their sons. :)

I am of the opinion that everyone lies on this subject. Men, women,
mothers, fathers, daughters and sons, sister or brother, authorty
figure or the lowest on the social ladder. Sometimes that is a good
thing, not being a black white thinker myself. If you disagree I
respect your right to do so. Please respect mine.
